The Power Of Words

Some clients, friends, and general observers have complained that this site is … um … pretty wordy.

Why so many words, they ask. Where are the pictures?

Lots of reasons:

I like words and am most comfortable with them. I recognize the power of pictures and video, but I believe words are still the best way to convey information, especially when it’s complex.

From a practical point of view, words work better with search engines. Flash is fine and may make site designers feel good, but search engines hate flash and ignore it. So, if you’re trying to convey information, why waste your time?

I think that the people I’m trying to communicate with prefer words, because they’re looking for specific information so that they can make a decision. Sure, they like pictures and video — who doesn’t? — but they still rely on word-based concepts for vital decision making.

Words, in my view, are affirming and cement a concept in our minds. When we’re exercising, or taking part in some other form of self-discipline, don’t we chant a word or a sentence to keep us on track? This is also the theory behind self-hypnotism, which is the ultimate form of speaking with yourself — or at least your subconscious self.

But I do recognize more people process information visually today and one has to recognize it by combing the words and visuals as much as possible.  So I’m linking here to a video that sums up why I like words.

The Magical Power Of Words To Create Your Destiny

When you’re composing a content marketing piece, perhaps you too should consider how you can use visuals as part of your communication efforts.
